The main building displays a large number of day-to-day table wares such as mugs, cups, vases etc in a large relaxing space. You can enjoy shopping a range of pottery from homeware to gifts and souvenirs.

"Gallery Tsukamoto" displays and sells selected works of potters living in Mashiko, including works by the living national treasures of Shoji Hamada and Tatsuzo Shimaoka. The gallery holds an exhibition every month, so you can see the artists' sophisticated works.

Prior to the 1960’s, it was common to fire products using pine firewood in a climbing kiln. A climbing kiln is a series of linked chambers running up a slope. Kiln firing takes about four consecutive days. On the first and second day, the inside moisture will be blown off, and on the third to fourth day, fire is continued overnight. The temperature is gradually increased by adjusting firewood and the amount of air entering into the kiln, until it is raised to about 1300 degrees.

Tsukamoto's skilled craftsperson are making pottery at our workshop where you can sense the 155 years of history and culture of Tsukamoto. The process of pottery production including forming, glazing and firing are consistently executed at the workshop. Newly designed wares are produced here that keep our traditional Mashiko techniques alive.

Approximately 8,000 pieces of "kamakko" are manufactured daily through this production line. These are pots for the famous brand "Togeno Kamameshi" originated by Oginoya. This production secures the tradition of Mashiko ware and sustains the future of ceramic industry.
